Medicare Supplement Plan N Reviews

Plan N was introduced in 2010, some carriers offered Supplemental Plan N guaranteed to every Medicare beneficiary (no medical underwriting). This caused some problems with premiums early on and therefore Plan N got mixed reviews from agents and consumers (agents were concerned their clients’ premiums would skyrocket).

Since then, much has settled, and now with the MACRA ruling, Plan N has become much more popular amongst Medicare members.

Plan N offers comprehensive coverage, minimal out-of-pocket costs, and lower monthly premiums, in comparison to other Medigap Plans.

What are Plan N excess charges?

If a doctor wants to charge above the Medicare approved amount, Medicare allows the doctor to do so, up to 15% (this is referred to as an excess charge).

Medicare Plan N does not cover excess charges, which means you would be responsible for that portion of the bill.

Note: This is not comparable to the 20% coinsurance (that is still covered by the plan). The 15% is above the final, approved amount.

Let’s take a look at an example below:

Doctor bills $1,000 to Medicare

Medicare approves $750

Plan N covers the entire bill (assuming your deductible has been satisfied)

Doctor can still charge 15% on top of the $750 approved, paid amount. Leaving you to pay $112.50.

Note #2: Not all states allow excess charges. Excess charges are not common. Only 5% of all charges billed are excess charges.

Does Medicare Supplement Plan N cover physical therapy?

Physical therapy is covered by Supplement Plan N, so long as your doctor deems it medically necessary.

Remember, Original Medicare will be the primary payor and your Plan N secondary. This means if Medicare approves the services, your Plan N will also pay its portion.

What is the Part B deductible for 2022?

Meet Melissa MacCalla

Medicare is not simple and can be hard, frustrating, and downright confusing for most. I love when I get someone on the phone and I am given the opportunity to explain the difference in plans to them and have Medicare make sense. I enjoy talking to clients year after year, hearing about their families growing or them asking about mine.

-Melissa

Oh my gosh!! I was so confused about the Medicare Supplement process. I am turning 65 soon and am retired and have always had insurance thru my former employer. I didn’t know a thing about going on Medicare and was struggling to sort it all out.

A friend of mine recommended contacting Senior HealthCare Solutions, so I did. Melissa was FANTASTIC!! She was professional, responsive, caring and friendly. She explained the steps I needed to take, gathered my information, helped me choose good plans for MY specific needs and took care of my applications over the phone. 1-2-3, eesy-peesy and I was done!! And it didn’t cost me a DIME!!! WOW!!! I HIGHLY recommend Senior Healthcare Solutions for anyone who’s overwhelmed with making the right choices with Medicare Supplemental Insurance and Rx coverage. It’ll take a load off your mind!
