What is Medicare Easy Pay?
Medicare Easy Pay is a free service that allows you to automatically pay your Medicare premiums from your bank account. This service is offered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
If you’re drawing social security benefits, your Medicare premiums are automatically deducted from your social security check.
In some cases, people with Railroad retiree benefits will receive a bill to pay Medicare premiums.
Not all people have or need Medicare Easy Pay.
How to sign up for Medicare Easy Pay
Singing up for easy pay is simple and there are two ways to do so. You can sign up online or by completing a paper application and mailing it in.
To enroll online, you will need to log into (or create) your Medicare account https://www.medicare.gov/account/login/.
Once there, you can select “my premiums” and then “sign up”. You will need to provide Medicare with your bank account information so that they can set up the automatic payments. Automatic Medicare premium payments can take up to 8 weeks to start.
Alternatively, you can complete the Medicare Easy Pay Form, {form SF5510} and mail it in to:

After your enrollment is complete, Medicare will send you a monthly statement showing the amount that was withdrawn from your account.
You can also view your payment history online. If you ever need to cancel your automatic payments, you can do so by contacting Medicare.
When will Easy Pay deduct my bank account?
Your Medicare payment through Easy Pay will be deducted around the 20th of each month. The description should appear on your statement as “CMS Medicare Premiums”
How to change bank accounts or cancel Medicare Easy Pay
Simple enough. You can always change how your pay your Part A premium and Part B premium.
To change bank accounts or cancel easy pay, you have two options:
- Sign in to your Medicare account online
- Complete a paper form, SF-5510 and mail it to:

It can take up to 8 weeks to recognize a change in bank accounts. It can take up to 4 weeks to stop automatic premium payment deductions.
How to Pay Part A and Part B premiums (4 ways to pay your Medicare Premiums)
Easy Pay is a great and convenient way to pay your Medicare bill. But, not everyone has or needs Medicare Easy Pay. Below are the alternative methods to complete your Medicare payment.
- Pay Medicare online through your Medicare account
- Setup bill payment direct through your personal checking or savings account.
- Mail your payment to Medicare
If you need it, you may be able to qualify for extra help to pay your Medicare Premiums.
How to pay my Medicare bill online
You can easily make pay Medicare online by signing into or creating your Medicare account.
Pay by credit card, debit card or a personal checking or savings account.
Once you’re logged in, select “My Premiums” from the drop down menu and then click “Pay Now”.
Then, choose your payment method and make complete your Medicare premium payment. You will receive a confirmation notice and the deduction can take up to 5 days to show in your account.
Can I pay my Medicare premium with online bill pay through my bank?
Yes, you can setup a one-time or reoccurring payment through your bank. Not all banks may offer this service and some may charge a fee. Be sure to check with your bank.
In some cases, banks may still mail a check, even though online bill payment has been setup.
You will need to provide the bank with the information listed below:
- Your Medicare Number (no dashes, spaces or extra characters)

4. The amount of your payment
Can I pay my Medicare premium by credit card?
Yes, you can pay your Part A premium and Part B premium on a credit card or debit card.
To make your monthly payment by credit card, simply login to your Medicare account. You can also mail your payment in. If you’re mailing your payment, be sure to complete the payment coupon slip, sign it and return with your payment information.
If the coupon slip is not signed, the payment will not be processed.
What forms of payment does Medicare accept?
Medicare accepts the following forms of payment:
- Credit Card
- Debit Card
- Check
- Money Order
- Online Bill Pay
- Easy Pay
When are Medicare premiums due?
Medicare bills are always due on the 25th of the month. In general, your premium is due the month you get your bill.
Medicare recommends sending your payment at least 5 days before the due date to ensure it’s process in a timely manner.
If you get a “delinquent” bill, consider it urgent, as you may be at risk of losing your Medicare benefits.
Remember, there are Medicare penalties for not having Medicare when eligible. Furthermore, Medicare designates certain Medicare Enrollment Periods for when you can sign up. If you lose your benefits, you may have to have to wait to enroll again.
Why is my first Medicare bill for 3 months?
Most people do not pay a premium for Medicare Part A. In general, if your Medicare bill is for 3 months, it’s likely for your Part B premium only.
Medicare bills for Part B every 3 months. Part A ever month and Part D every month.

Can I sign up for Easy Pay if I get a bill from the Railroad Retirement Board?
When you get a bill to pay your Medicare premium(S), you cannot sign up for Easy Pay and will need to mail your Medicare payment to:
